I know I said I was going to write a post about my trip to Ellis Island, but the most exciting part of it was that I got to go. Don't get me wrong ..... I had a great time. But time is what we didn't have enough of. Thanks to 9/11 there is way too much security. Im both happy and ticked off about that. Im happy because it stops 9/11 from happening again, but ticked because the "strip searches" took too much time. Now it wasn't an actual strip search, but probly about the same as airport security checks. We had to go through that to get off the main land in Jersey, and again to get into the base of the statue. We only had 20 minutes to get back to the boat to Jersey to catch the bus home, so we didn't get in to the statue. We went to the gift shop instead and still almost missed the boat. We got to it just as it was about to take off.
While we were on the island, we started a search to learn about our family history. This search was just to see who of our ancestors came to the U.S. through Ellis Island. We are actually going to need some help with this from some of our older relatives.
Other than that the only thing we really had time for was the celebration of Ms. Liberty's birthday. It was a great ceremony, but it just didn't spark my interest. Well not until the one woman in the ceremony fainted due to low blood sugar. I didn't see her fall, but it sounded like she hit the floor hard. She seemed to be ok though, because it didn't take her long to come around.
I don't want to deal with the security again, but I would love to go back to see everything that we didn't get a chance to last week. Those one-day bus trips never give you enough time to do everything. A trip like this one, you would want to take at least a weekend for.
